Operators face multiple challenges for the implementation of national IP Interconnections with the support of new services like VoLTE and Enhanced Voice Services. This requires new routing capabilities to avoid network inefficiencies or interference with end-to-end service demands when traffic is routed via existing TDM and IP interconnection resources without consideration of session-specific requirements.
This paper evaluates the routing capabilities and their differences supported within both the ENUM and SIP signaling protocols. These capabilities are discussed in the context of the traffic flows that are involved, and their migration over time.
